Paper and Gratitude

Does paper really grow on trees?
Yes it does but it is still not easy to come by.

The children at Rising Lotus go through so many supplies.
This stack of beat up notebooks belongs to just one child
and it is only for part of one semester.

Keep in mind, there are 13 children here.
The supplies are not only expensive but also difficult to get to the children.

In order for us to get these supplies at a cheaper rate
we have to go into town and find a wholesaler.
Once we acquire the supplies we then have the long hike to get it all back to Rising Lotus.

The bus from the city doesn’t go all the way to the front door,
so we have to carry everything up the side of the mountain.

It’s a beautiful view which makes the breaks that we have to take well worth it.
But, we are still hauling notebooks up a mountainside.

Now, imagine repeating this same process
for nearly every supply the children need.

As you are thinking about what you are grateful for this Thanksgiving,
I hope you’ll add “convenience” to the list.
The luxury of anything you need being just a Target store away.

I never realized how much I could learn to appreciate a simple notebook.
