Kindness Challenge #14: “Voodoo Doll”

Uncategorized   /

CONFESSION: This is MY favorite Kindness Challenge of the whole series. I guess b/c maybe it’s the one I  know I’m working on myself still. Regardless, I’ve been counting down the days until I could share this one with you. Here it is…

Basically, I have this thing about voodoo dolls.  I’ve had one since I was a teenager butI have NEVER stuck the pins in it maliciously. I’m actually afraid of that energy a little bit. But I keep my voodoo doll right here on the bookshelf behind my writing desk so I can see it DAILY. Why? Because it serves as a powerful visual reminder of the juxtaposition between “intention” and “choice” and how our unspoken intentions toward people can often be just as toxic as any of our outward actions.

Here’s today’s Kindness Challenge video, entitled “Voodoo Doll“:

So, hmmm… lots to think about on this one. What are the unseen ways that YOU stick pins in people?Do you send hater vibes to the girl/guy who people think is better looking than you?Do you slant stories to make other people look worse than they really are?Maybe you deliberately withhold affection or recognition, or even just avoid emailing back/texting back/calling somone back just to keep the upper hand on them. Ouch, those jabs HURT!

Okay, before I sign off, I’m going to break from the usual format and share something really personal with you … something that really resonated for me when I first saw it.  It is a film short that I saw at the Florida Film Festival last year that I fell l in love with /was totally stunned by. Fair warning: it’s kinda creepy (especially situated in the context of this perky upbeat campaign) but it’s really good and has poignant messages re:  our assumptions about pain, who feels it, how thought intentions can shackle or liberate … just all kinds of great symbolism going on here. So, if you feel inclined, take a look (NOTE: This video is not for young children!)

So, there you go. Breathe this challenge in deep, gang. We’re all in this one together.

One of my favorite quotes of all times is “The most powerful way to change your life is to change your mind.” … Today, see how you can shift and change those thoughts for the better today. Monitor your thoughts (and your undedected actions) and notice when you are sticking pins in people. Then, have the courage to make a different choice … a kinder choice. I’ll be curious to hear about your experience.

Sending you ONLY good, kind thoughts today,

Cris (xo)

P.S. Like this campaign? Then pop over to our Facebook page and “LIKE” us there, too. Then we get to stay friends. Aww… and what a nice thought that is!! 🙂
