Kindness Challenge #3: “Lighten My Load”

Blog   /

Question for you: when people ask “How Are You?” , is your response always:  “Stressed!…Busy!!” ???

Yep, I hear ya. But here’s the thing… EVERYONE is feeling just as overstimulated and overwhelmed as we are. We forget that sometimes. As a result, we also forget to pitch in and help one another out … (“But Cris!! My schedule can not handle ONE more single thing!!”) … I know. I know. I really do hear you. I often feel the same way.

BUT … then I remember the time a friend of mine came to the rescue by jumping in during a stressful work project. He stepped in and TOOK tasks off my plate and completed them. He didn’t ASK if he could help (b/c he knew I’d say “no,  I’m fine.” … even though I wasn’t). He just said “Look, I’m doing these for you. <period>You focus on the big-picture and top-priority tasks. I’ve got this.”

And here’s what’s powerful (and KIND) about gestures like that. While task assistance is great, what  REALLY resonates for us in moments like that is the comfort and relief that someone actually WANTS to ease our stress a little. Put short: that we aren’t in this extreme overwhelm alone.

So, in that vein… here’s today’s challenge: “Lighten My Load”:

So today, remember: small gestures really do make a BIG difference. Find one fellow stressophile (goodness knows, they’re EVERYWHERE) and figure out ONE small MANAGEABLE task you can take off their plate. You’ll lighten their load and brighten their day (and hopefully your own day, as well).

Can’t wait to hear how this one goes.  Wishing YOU a stress-free, kindness-filled day.

xo,
Cris

Okay… so my “lighten your load” task today was putting my daughter’s laundry away for her. I’m a stickler about her doing it herself but we had a hectic week and after rushing from a late afternoon meeting home for dinner, homework and bath… her little face just crumpled in frustration when she realized there was still a giant pile of clean laundry to put away. So, I did my own challenge… said “you know what, you’re looking stressed. Mama’s going to help you out tonight with that and do it for you while you finish homework.” … she said “Oh, Mama, you are the smartest, nicest Mama ever.” (hee hee… not sure how “smart” plays into the equation but I’ll take it.) cris
