ZOMBIES!!! I swear, sometimes I think we have all morphed into completely zoned-out zombies.
Peter M. Leschak says “All of us are watchers — of television, of time clocks, of traffic on the freeway — but few of us are observers. Everyone is looking, not many are seeing.”
We walk through this world in a “MY life is soooo important!! MY life is sooo hectic!” haze. We assume that if it doesn’t directly effect us, then it doesn’t matter… it isn’t even happening. And sadly, we miss so much of what truly does matter, and that is: what is going on in the hearts and lives of those around us.
When I find myself having a zoned-out, self-obsessed moment, I remind myself: “HELLO! You are NOT the only story unfolding on this planet!”
So, in that vein… here’s today’s challenge, entitled “Just Notice”:
So, let’s do this one earnestly, gang. And let’s do it together! Let’s walk through our day with our hearts OPEN, caring enough to notice what’s going on for those around us. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for one another is just bear witness to our shared human experience.
So let your eyes rest on someone long enough today to actually SEE them. Is a child smiling? … lovely! Can you look long enough to surmise why? … Does the clerk at the store look sad? Can you give a sympathetic look and give a compliment that might shift his day? … Who looks elated? Who looks lonely? Who looks frazzled?
Today, just spend a little time seeing what you can notice. And then, if you chose to act on what you observe, all the better.
Alright … have a lovely, lovely day with this one. Please come back to the blog or FB wall tonight and tell me about your experience. Reading your feedback is one of my favorite parts of the day, so keep the comments coming.
Kindness! Kindness! Kindness!! I love it! Love it! LOVE it!!
